glimpses of heaven

Hey friends!! If you are local in the PNW like me, I hope you are enjoying the sunshine & warm days.

“So prepare your minds for action & exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.”

1 Peter 1:13

There are so many passages in the Bible about enduring hardship or simply enduring our daily lives here on earth. We live in a heavy world. There will always be sadness, loss, change, cancer, financial struggles, anger, brokenness. AND. There will be joy, connection, sweet relationships, baby smiles, beautiful views, work successes, family. I choose to place my hope & joy in recognizing that these glorious moments are like little glimpses of heaven.

“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’”

Isaiah 55: 8-9

Do these verses excite you as much as they excite me?! One time I was sitting with a 5-year-old I was babysitting, and we were painting with watercolors. Her concentration on her painting shifted in wide eyes to meet my eyes. She asked me with a quiet voice, “Miss Sabrina, do you think there are even more colors in heaven?” I answered, “maybe, I know heaven is so amazing there are things we can’t even imagine.” She went back to her painting and her thoughts & amazement in imagining have always stuck with me. I strive to have a heart that wonders after God’s goodness & beauty just like this 5-year-old. God’s ways & thoughts are so intricate & amazing we can’t even fully comprehend them.

So these little joy moments in life must be small compared to the glory of heaven. I feel inspired & grateful that my happy days & joy will be even greater in heaven. I like to imagine these are the glimpses while we strive to glorify Christ through the ups and downs of life.

“For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”

Hebrews 13:14

Ahh this is one of my favorite verses of the whole Bible. We are blessed with the greatest motivation of heaven in the midst of trials & sorrows. Sometimes heavenly hope is all we have to cling to when days are hard or long or seem like it will never end. But it will. God is with us & promises us an eternity with Him when we trust in Him.

Take heart, my friends, we serve a good & faithful God.
